Judge Lambert Tree was a member of an old Chicago family. As a matter of fact he built this building on the west lawn of the Tree homestead which the family had occupied since the 1840s.

Off-duty cop shot in attempted robbery has died

Chicago, IL - Thomas Wortham, IV, 30, of the 8400 block of S. King Drive, was shot.. He was pronounced dead at 12:07 a.m.in Oak Lawn.. Also shot was Brian Floyd, 20, of the 3700 block of S. Wentworth Ave.. Floyd was dead on the scene at South King Drive.. an accident occurred on the way to hospital.. A squad car assisting in the escort..

I parked my car and walked along the road admiring the indentations in the snow where the graves lay beneath. Only the tall, elaborate headstones were visible. I remembered why I had been drawn to this place. Even though the lawns are manicured there is something wild about it. It’s filled with furry creatures, birds, trees, and – silence.
